Osteopathic physicians are trained to use their hands to gently move a patient’s joints and tissues to correct any restrictions in range of motion. They can apply light pressure, resistance, and stretching. Their techniques include myofascial release, which releases tension in the fascia (the layer of connective tissue that surrounds the bones, muscles, and organs) and osteopathic cranial manipulation, which applies soft pressure to the skull to stimulate healing.
Injections into articular, periarticular, or soft tissue structures relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and improve mobility. Injections can provide diagnostic information and are commonly used for pain control. Local anesthetics may be injected with corticosteroids to provide additional, rapid pain relief.

Counseling can help develop goals and lifestyle changes that can improve health and well-being.
